February 8 - 12, 2016 - Fabric and Sewing

February 10 - President and Sister Thomas flew to Mbuji-Mayi for Zone Conferences there and in Mwene Ditu and Luputa. On Friday, Elder Neil A. Anderson will be in Kinshasa to break ground for the Temple there. Saturday Elder Anderson will be in Mbuji-Mayi for a meeting with the Saints there.

A tent will be erected and chairs set up for about 2,000 people for the meeting. He will then hold a conference on Sunday.

President and Sister Thomas will be in attendance for those meetings and will return to Lubumbashi on Monday.

On Thursday, February 11, Elder Vernon Jubber, the Area Medical Adviser and his wife came from South Africa to tour some hospitals in Likasi and Kolwezi with Elder and Sister Mikesell. They left on Friday morning and came back Saturday afternoon.

This latter part of the week was slow in the office. We had caught up on all the work. So we went downtown to look for fabric. Some of the sisters have been making aprons for their daughters and even some son-in-laws a chef apron. I purchased some fabric and cut out an apron for me and also a fabric handbag. Sister Draper has made over a dozen aprons made from different fabric. They are reversible with large pockets across the front. The one I made is not reversible.  Sister Draper also made a handbag and gave me the pattern. I need to purchase some iron on interfacing before I can sew it.

We set up two sewing machines in the main office where we could chat and work.

Here are some pictures of some of the dolls Sister Draper has made so we can see how to finish the hair and jewelry for the doll.
